In 1930, Father James Bennett, pastor, and five Sisters of Saint Joseph -Sr. Mary Dolorosa Irwin (first principal and Superior), Sr. Stanislaus Maria Langdon, Sr. Assumpta Maria O'Keefe, Sr. Mary Theobald McGrath, and Sr. Teresa Agnes McArthur-began the great work of providing a quality education in the secular subjects for the children of Saint Stanislaus Kostka Parish, and, more importantly, in the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith.  The original school began with eight classrooms on the first floor, living accommodations for the Sisters on the second floor, and an auditorium in the basement.  Approximately 188 students were registered when the school opened.  By 1934, the school was in full operation serving children from grades one through eight.

Today, Saint Stanislaus Kostka School is a Middle States Accredited School offering high academic standards to the children of the Maspeth community.  One hundred percent of the students in grades four, six and eight score above the State Reference in ELA and Math. Special attention is given to educating the students in Christian doctrine and truths.  The program provides for a full day/part day pre-kindergarten, a full day kindergarten, second language and computer/laptop instruction, physical education, music theory and art education programs, free remedial reading and math instruction, Sequential Math enrichment for grade eight, a multi media center and library, a Before and After School Program, musical theatre, scouting, sports, after school activities, emphasis on student leadership and active parent participation. Needs based scholarships are available for students in kindergarten through grade eight.

At present, the school is under the direction of Sister Rose Torma who, along with the teachers and staff, is successfully maintaining the high standards and ideals that have marked the 80 year history of St. Stanislaus School.

With God’s help, the cooperation, prayers, and sacrifices of the administration and teaching staff, and the students and families of the parish, Saint Stanislaus School will continue to provide a quality Catholic education for the Maspeth community.
